Project Overview
The Buford Highway Arterial Rapid Transit (ART) project is implementing the goals established in the 2019 DeKalb County Transit Master Plan. The plan addressed mobility challenges, future development opportunities, and the need for quality-of-life improvements within each region of DeKalb County. Candler Road was identified as a potential transit opportunity within north DeKalb County.
ART is a fast and frequent bus service MARTA is implementing in the Atlanta region. ART enhances bus operations in a corridor by providing more frequent service in highly travelled corridors. This project will connect to the Lindbergh MARTA rail station in the south and the Doraville MARTA rail station to the north, providing frequent service on Buford Highway, a highly traveled corridor and one of MARTA’s busiest routes -- Route 39.
MARTA is currently developing conceptual station designs for Buford Highway, meeting with key stakeholders and the public, and coordinating with the Georgia Department of Transportation. Because Buford Highway is a state route, MARTA and GDOT will work together on any changes to the roadway, especially in relation to programming the traffic signals to facilitate bus operations.
Additional opportunities for public input will be available during the final design phase. Sign up for our mailing list to stay informed.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the June 2023 virtual and in person public meetings to learn more about the enhanced bus service and to ask questions and provide feedback. These periodic meetings are one way MARTA is listening to the community’s concerns
and ideas for this corridor. We’re also hosting “pop up” events at MARTA transit stations, commercial, shopping and civic centers along Buford Highway to better understand the needs of the community.
If you missed our latest round of meetings, below is the recording of the virtual public meeting on June 8th.
